This is my fifth year as Music Director for Finding Faith, our Catholic Campus Ministry band.  I grew up in Brussels, a small farming community in Door County.  I graduated from UW-Green Bay in December 2004 with a major in Business and a minor in Accounting.  During the day I work for my family’s feed mill business in Brussels, and at night you’ll find me jammin’ at the Mauthe Center.

In the heat of the summer I’ll be biking, camping, going to the beach, or heading to a Brewer’s game, and in winter I’ll be snowboarding, working in the shop, or hibernating.  Aside from playing guitars, I also build them—my 5th hand-made electric guitar will be finished soon.

Do you have a background in music?  If so, consider helping us lead our congregation in song during Mass.  If you’re interested in seeing what Catholic Campus Ministry or Finding Faith is about, let me know!

Deacon Tom Mahoney

tom.mahoney@wfrv.com

Deacon Tom Mahoney was ordained a deacon on May 16, 2009 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay by Bishop David Ricken.  His assignments include pastoral and liturgical ministry at both St. Francis Xavier Cathedral and Saints Peter & Paul Church in Green Bay.

Deacon Tom is familiar with UW-Green Bay.  He was an adjunct professor in Environmental Science from 1991 to 2001, teaching Ocean of Air, an Introduction to Meteorology.  He and his family also attended Sunday Evening Mass here at the EC when he was teaching.  Tom and his wife Sue have six children, and three of the six attended UW-Green Bay.  His daughter Molly was even on the swim team as a diver.  His youngest will graduate from the United States Naval Academy in May 2010.

Deacon Tom is probably best known for being Chief Meteorologist the last 28 years at WFRV, Channel 5 in Green Bay, as well as 105.7 WAPL on the air wave.  It’s great to have a local celebrity on our team!

This is my first year as Campus Minister on the UW-Green Bay campus.  Prior to coming to UWGB, I’ve been a teacher and also worked in faith formation in parishes, including working with RCIA.  (If any of you would like to complete the Sacraments of First Communion or Confirmation, let me know, so that you have the opportunity to do so!)

I’m an outdoors person at heart as I grew up on a dairy farm in Green Lake County.  Explaining the “how to” to people made me a natural teacher, so my B.S. is in secondary education English and communications, and my M.A. is in Christian spirituality from Creighton University in Omaha, NE, a good Jesuit school where Ignatian Spirituality is taught and lived.  In addition, I hold a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from CU, and some of you may wish to explore spiritual direction as an avenue in growing in your relationship with God.  Be sure to ask me about spiritual direction!

When I do have free time, I like to walk, read, and garden; there is such goodness in growing things and watching life spring forth.  On the quirky side, I love penguins, especially the way they waddle!   I enjoy being outdoors and love to be around water, but ironically enough, I don’t swim.  Water speaks to my spirit as do trees, and hanging out with friends and family is a high priority in my life.

Young adults are dear to my heart, and I love working with students; campus ministry is the best!  Stop by the Mauthe Center anytime or look for me at the student union, and we can chat over a cappuccino or a soda.  I am excited to know all of you and work with you.  Feel free to stop by and anytime!

I am a sophomore and majoring in business administration.  This is my first year working with campus ministry as the Sacristan. It is a great opportunity and I enjoy learning new things about God, my co-workers, the community, and myself.  I am from Random Lake, WI and yes, the name is strange.  In my free time I like to read books, spend time with family, friends and run.  My favorite book is The Help.  Since I am a Spanish minor, I would like to visit or study abroad to either Mexico or Spain.  I would love to visit Boston again because they have the best cannolis and the most famous Marathon.

This is Father Schuster’s first year as chaplain at UWGB and we are excited to have him here! He is also the vocations director for the Green Bay Diocese. He is available on Sunday at 6:30 pm for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and at Mass.  Fr. Schuster is also around on some Wednesdays for Alpha & Omega.

I am a senior this year at UW-Green Bay, and Catholic Campus Ministry has had a huge impact on my life for the past four years.  I had the honor to be the sacristan last year, and  this year I will be serving as Outreach Coordinator.  I encourage you to get involved in as much as you can here at campus ministry.

We have service opportunities once a month, Alpha & Omega every week and of course Mass on Sundays.  Also joining a small group is a great way to meet other Catholic students, and it gives you a chance to grow in your relationship with God.

This year I am a Resident Assistant (RA) on campus, and I have been enjoying it.  I am a Social Work major from Port Washington, WI.  My favorite place to travel to is New Orleans, and I love almost everything there—from the people to the amazing food and rich culture.  In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends and family, watching movies, campfires, and going out on my parents’ boat.
